“Mid-America Tumbling Society (MATS) is a multi-level competitive tumbling competition that allows tumblers to showcase their talents on a competitive level against other dance studios and gyms in the Kansas City metropolitan area.” - https://matstumbling.com/
MATS Meets consists of individual floor routines competed at different levels of difficulty based on the skill level of the athlete. Routine type is chosen by the MATS coach based on observation and to give the athlete the best chance to succeed while also growing themselves as a tumbler. There are also uplevel requirements for athletes who receive a high placement in their routine to move up to the next level and how that qualifies them for champs. There’s quite a bit that goes into that, so the MATS coach will be in charge of tracking that and you can reach out with any questions you may have regarding your athlete’s assigned routines.
At MATS meets, athletes will have a “warm up time” at which time they will check in with a competition number card to the warm up room for competition. Coaches and parents are NOT allowed in the warm up room, but may accompany the athlete to check in. During warm up, they will have the opportunity to warm up the skills in their routine, NOT their routine sequence. This is because some routines move forward and backward on the mat and, for safety with the quantity of athletes, warm up mats skills must always move forward.
Their competition time is 30 minutes after the warm up time. Athletes will be escorted to the competition room by the MATS staff, and athletes are responsible for their own competition numbers. In the competition room, there are 5 mats running each session. Results are posted approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the session.
